Living the Dream

If we haven't said it we have probably heard the famous phrase "I'm living the dream", usually said with a touch, more like drowning, of  sarcasm, with a side of there is nothing I can do about it.

Give yourself permission to enjoy small moments of your dream(s) for the little bits here and there really do add up. Before you know it you will be truly living your dream.

Watching sunsets, drinking coffee while relaxing in rocking chairs on our farmers porch, watching and listening to the critters, picking fresh veggies from the garden, spending time my greenhouse, milling boards on the sawmill, cutting down old snags with the chainsaws, trail riding on my Percheron, snuggling with the mini donkeys and oh so many more.

Our Mission

Our current mission is to get this cabin built and livable so we can move from Idaho to Montana forever!

Getting involved I think is our politest way of saying "Hey we would love for you to stop by for a visit and while your here we could use a hand or two maybe three or four, heck we'll take whatever you've got". But of course that would only be after you have thoroughly enjoyed yourselves and have gotten to relax for a while

Getting Involved

  Our latest project

After last summers effort in first clearing the land and then the harvesting and peeling of the logs, we went from 9 holes in the ground to what you see, with critical contributor assistance over two weekends, you are looking at 2 solid months of work. We are so excited that next summer will be the LAST year we base our Ranch operations out of a popup camper. YEA!!! We have actually had thoughts of torching the camper. That would be a sight...

Recent Accomplishments

My goodness how time flies when your having fun. This last summer we were able to build the cabin, four walls and a roof. Mark and I did most of the work ourselves and had most awesome help on two separate weekends, we'd still be up there otherwise. We worked through the hottest part of the summer in 100+ degree weather digging holes for the piers, hot hot hot. Putting up the logs was a very slow process, we figured 30 minutes per log, 2 layers at the most is what we dared do. Cap and ridge poles took everyone on hand for the birthday bash to get in place. The roof about did Mark in, that guy was a beast, would you believe that it took just as long to put the roof on as it did to get the walls up.

Happenings

Every fall or winter when we come back to city life we do it kicking and screaming all the way, we do eventually settle into a routine after a rough 2-3 months. Our garage was  empty and now it is very very stuffed, there is about 4 loads worth of stuff headed up in May. We have everything from windows and doors to a composting potty and chicken wire. We always look forward to heading back up even if it takes us a week to get everything moved. Mark has been busy getting the required tools, equipment and materials and I am now starting to get the foods prepared. April is about as busy as it gets, WE LOVE IT!

Summer 2022

First things first, we need to get Beulah, our newly acquired 1954 road grader out of the driveway and finish plowing the road so we can get to the cabin site.  Getting camp set up usually takes a couple of days if Mother nature feels like being nice, followed by a couple weeks or more of needing naps while we acclimate to being at around 5000', the air isn't just softer there is less of it.

There will be support logs to go up, plumbing, electrical and gas to put in before the floor, cleaning of the logs to be nailed and chinked but only after we have cut holes in the walls for the doors and windows, the beginnings of the kitchen, decks to be built hopefully with roofs and I'm sure there is something I've forgotten all to be done for the Celebration of Life the end of July. Somewhere in there we will have the garden put together too.
