My Skeltons

In the 1930's my Grandmother seized the opportunity to purchase an island in the Rocky Mountains. As the cabin's foundation was being dug, some partially burnt human remains were discovered. Talk about skeletons, we found one! The above picture is of "Oscar". There is a whole story about his remains, but that is not the point of this story.

It is a funny thing about our skeletons, we try to keep them locked up and hidden out of public view. Ultimately, we have only deceived ourselves. Well, just look at those in the public eye that did or said something that was to remain on the 'down low'. With the passage of time, the 'down low' is now embarrassing common knowledge and their reputation suffers. Given time, ALL our skeletons will be revealed, even who killed JFK.
So here we are, jealously protecting our skeletons, deceiving ourselves that they are safe from the public eye. Investing our resources to carefully construct camouflage, burying them a little deeper, maintaining an alarm perimeter, adding more bricks to the supposedly formidable wall. We are conflicted with who we 'actually' are, and who we 'project' we are.
Let us stop deceiving ourselves and be dreadfully honest, for once.
Let us recognize the fact that we have all done or said something that we are not proud of. There is not one of us that's perfect, we have all screwed up. So, what makes you so special? Your ego?
We are currently in a leadership vacuum, and in desperate need for more leaders to step up to the plate and begin taking responsibility for themselves and what they have done.
Until that happens, we will continue to shuck our personal responsibilities, and continue to pass more legislation to force morality, integrity, honesty, and character upon our American society. No amount legislation will replace our personal responsibility, to do what is right! We cannot shuck off our responsibility to a moral society.
So, let us bite the bullet, tear the closet door off, expose those skeletons and clean our reputation once and for all. We are in desperate need of humble, hungry and honest leaders. This can only happen if you begin with ourselves, in making things right in your life, taking responsibility for your actions, and setting the example for others to follow. Yes, it is a piece of humble pie, but in 20-20 hindsight, it may not be an easy decision, but it will be the right one.
"What you DO speaks so loudly, I cannot hear what you say!", Ralph Waldo Emerson
Let us begin today to realign our Public and Private lives, by resolving the situations that our skeletons caused.
