Who are you?

When we are asked this question, we often respond with a title of what we do; a business owner, engineer, clerk, truck driver, home maker, or a sales person. The question goes deeper than that though. Others may respond with; I am a father of twins, happily married man, boating enthusiast, mountain climber, a man of faith, a woman of vision, that gets us a little closer of who we really are, but it still goes deeper. Who you are cannot be simply stated with a title, an activity, or a dream or goal. There is so much more.

The odds of you being born where and when you were are 1 in 400 trillion. In my book, this makes you very unique. You may have had similar experiences and made similar choices as others, but no-one can say they are exactly like you. You see and respond to your world, uniquely.

When I meet you, I meet the thousands of people that have influenced you, the books you have read, the experiences you have endured, your choices, your successes and failures, all wrapped up into a unique bundle. Everyday we change into a slightly different person than we were the day before, because of the influences we allow in our life. When I meet you, I meet a very unique individual.

We are made of the same elements as the sun, earth, moon and the stars and are so much more significant than you realize. Just as the sun and the stars lights our way every day, so do we have a responsibility to live our life to the fullest. Each star is unique, just like you, so light up your world just like they do each night, as a unique individual.

We have one shot at this life, and if we live it right, one shot is all we will need. Why not shine as bright as the stars and have the world see and feel the impact of your life? One of my favorite quotes is by D.L. Moody, “Our greatest fear should not be of failure, but of succeeding at something that doesn’t matter” .

We have a choice to reach for the stars and seize our uniqueness or just settle to be a "wandering generality". The choice is yours.
